Pre-made vs. Custom

blg-standoutshoes1

Pre-made templates/designs are either logo, stationery, or website templates that are created beforehand for a person to use in their business.

The main issue with this way to implement design is that someone who purchases the pre-made template/design isn’t getting custom, tailored work specifically aimed at their style, ideas, audience, and is not unique. Many of these designs are very generic and even cliché. My concerns are: How many other websites and companies have the same design as you? And, how do people remember you?

Designers exist to help promote businesses. Designs should be unique to help a brand or company stand out from the others, be recognizable, and make your business easier to remember. If one of every 10 businesses looked the same, how would someone remember to come back to or recognize the business?

“We save you both time and money…”

Supposedly, this is the result of a pre-made template/design.

In the short-term, you may get a website up and running very quickly or a business card put together in a snap, but soon after, you will need changes made and new features added to a website that may require some research or paying someone (anyway) to get the site updated and/or features to work. In the short-term, you may also save money with a pre-made template/design; but, in the long-term, you may lose business because someone can not remember or differentiate your brand from others similar to yours.

So, whether you think you need it cheap and now; or, you would rather spend a little more time and get it done right, professionally, and uniquely is up to you.
